Martial Arts
"I have been studying Danzan Ryu Jujitsu since 1998 under Sensei John Pfund and am currently ranked sandan (third degree black belt). Along the way I have studied Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Toyama Ryu Battodo, and fencing. For three years I taught professionally at Elite Self Defense Academy in Livermore, CA, after which I furthered my experience doing event security in San Francisco. I currently study Brazilian Jiujitsu at Cia Paulista in Melbourne. I seek to create spontaneous beauty in motion.
Jujitsu is two words. Ju translates to gentle, supple, soft, pliable, and dynamic. Jitsu translates to both art and science. So Jujitsu is the art of gentleness or the science of suppleness. Jujitsu is not a set of combat techniques so much as it is the principle that one must achieve success in one's objectives through gentleness. I try to apply this principle universally.
